Freeware patch to make the commercial Italy 2000 scenery compatible with
FS2002
Italy2000,
taking into account the limitations of a product covering a large number of airports,
features a great deal of innovations over the airport buildings of the default sceneries.
Unfortunately, Italy2000 is not compatible with FS2002
and, even if the buildings are displayed, it cannot be used for flying with FS2002.
The idea behind this patch was to make Italy2000 fully
compatible with FS2002.
The obstacles encountered while producing the patch
were:
In FS2002 the number of Italian airports has been
reduced with respect of those included in FS2000. About twenty are missing, among which
some significant ones such as Venegono, Vergiate, Trento and LAquila.
The runway co-ordinates of FS2000 seldom match those
of FS2002.
As a consequence of the above, the ILS beacons
too are not compatible.
Italy2000's airports were not designed following a
uniform pattern for each location: : in some airports only buildings are displayed, in
others buildings and taxiways, and in some others the runway is also included.
Italy 2000 does not use flatten parameters (with the
exception of command lines in scenery.cfg).

|
How the objective was achieved:
After checking, for each airport, the respective
position in the two sceneries, flatten files (to make the terrain uniform) and exclude
parameters (to eliminate runways and taxiways, where necessary) were included.
Menu files were created for the airports non included
in FS2002 in order to update FS2002's database. Runways, lights and radio beacons, where
required, were also drawn from scratch.
Runways and beacons were redesigned for the airports
with differing locations to make them compatible with Italy 2000. This, however, leaves
one problem unsolved, namely that the menu will not position your aircraft correctly on
the runway or at the gate and you will have to use slew commands.
All the beacons included in FS2002 were checked, and
those not included were added.
Each general aviation airport was tested flying around
the field, while an IFR approach was performed on those airports equipped for instrumental
landing.
To avoid seeing the airport from a great distance, the
grass.r8 textures were modified to render them more uniform with the new terrain of
FD2002. The
textures included in the package are FS2002's original textures, only the name was changed
to make them compatible with Italy2000.

Incompatibility problems not solved at present:
Italy2000's dynamic scenery
aircraft made with FsTraffic are not compatible with Fs2002, therefore this option should
be deactivated.
If FS2002's ATC traffic is
active, it may happen that in many airports the aircraft will taxi on the grass, owing to
the different location of taxiways and, worse still, in airports where the location of
runways was modified, they will take off and land off the runways. In the airports featuring precision approach, and for which the runway location
was modified, it may happen that the ATC will not give the correct vectoring to intercept
the ILS.
ATC assistance is not active for
the airports not included in FS2002's default sceneries. If, for instance, you are at Lugo
di Romagna, you can only contact Romagna Approach after take off, nor can you contact Lugo
tower for clearance to land (you may still land, even if not cleared...).

| How to install Italy2000edue:
Let's say it even if it is
obvious: you must have Italy2000 installed and active in the scenery library of FS2002.
Unzip the files included in
the patch zip in the subdirectory where you have installed Italy2000 (the
files will automatically be placed in the respective scenery e texture directories)
Italy2000edue's files for each airport are
easily identified by their ICAO code. Those ending with 1 are radio beacons, with 3 are
sceneries, with 4m are flattens, with 5 are excludes and with 6 are menus.
Start FS2002.
While loading, FS2002 will update the
scenery database with the new airports.
Using the World/Go to Airport menu, select
the desired airport and, if you are dropped off the runway, use the slew (Y) commands to
reposition the aircraft. |
